Nellie Showers Teter was the daughter of William Showers, one of the founding brothers of the Showers Brothers Furniture Factory in Bloomington. She was the first woman to be elected to the Indiana University Board of Trustees and served on the Board from 1924-1945. She was active in community affairs, and IU’s Teter Quad is named in her honor.
