First African-American administrator with the Monroe County Community School Corporation
Diane Hanks was assistant vice principal of Tri-North Middle School in 2013 when she applied for the principal position but did not receive it. Community backlash about the lack of diversity in school leadership led to Hanks’ appointment as the first Talent and Diversity Specialist for the Monroe County Community School Corporation. Nine months later, the school board appointed her principal of the Bloomington Graduate School. Hanks retired in 2015 after 20 years of service to the MCCSC.
