Marcellus Neal

Marcellus Neal was the first African American graduate of Indiana University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics in 1895. After completing his education at IU, he served as a teacher and school administrator. Neal was head of the Science Department at Washington High School in Dallas, Texas, for 25 years before his career was cut short by his tragic death following a hit-and-run accident.
