Barbara Shalucha was an IU Biology Professor who brought gardening to young people by founding Hilltop Garden in Bloomington. The Hilltop Garden & Nature Center was established in 1948 primarily focusing on youth gardening, but later expanding its reach throughout the University and surrounding community to provide opportunities to learn about different gardening practices and connecting with nature. Hilltop provides many educational opportunities for students through various internships and work study programs.
