Carl Stewart was a Monroe County educator for 20 years. He and his wife Ruth built the Starlite Theater in their backyard in 1955 when drive-ins were all the rage. At that time there were 117 drive-in theaters in Indiana. The Stewarts continued to operate the theater for nearly 50 years. He also established Stewart Real Estate in 1972. He was also active and a longtime leader in the Northside Exchange Club and Indiana Exchange Club.
