Nicole Bolden

First African-American City Clerk Nicole Bolden was elected City Clerk in 2015 after Regina Moore declined to seek re-election following 16 years in the office. Born in Iowa City, Iowa, Bolden moved to Bloomington in the early 1990s. While raising two daughters as a single parent, Bolden enrolled at IU and earned a Bachelor’s degree in 2005. From 2005 until 2008, she attended the Maurer School of Law. Bolden’s path to City Clerk began in 2009 when Moore hired her as a hearing officer. A year later, Bolden was promoted to Chief Deputy clerk, a job she held until being elected Clerk. She was re-elected to a second term in 2019.
